The brother-in-law of Irish Echo senior editor Ray O’Hanlon was tragically killed in Chicago last week.
Craig Gilman Stifler, 39, was a native of Danville, Ill., and a longtime resident of Chicago, where he worked as an attorney.
Stifler’s funeral and burial took place on Friday, Oct. 27, at St. David’s Episcopal Church in Glenview, Ill. Among those who spoke about Stifler’s life and work was his sister, Lisa Stifler O’Hanlon.
Stifler, born in 1961, was the only son of Tom Stifler and Ann Winters. During his high school years, Stifler was an outstanding athlete and a champion swimmer.
After high school, he was awarded a swimming scholarship by Pepperdine University in Malibu, Calif.
Stifler later completed his college studies at the University of Colorado, Boulder, where he graduated with a law doctorate. He was subsequently admitted to the bar for the state of Illinois. He worked in medical malpractice law and specialized in defending medical practitioners against malpractice suits.
