Elvis is in the Hall

This year’s class of inductees includes The Police, The Clash, Elvis Costello and the Attractions, AC/DC and The Righteous Brothers.
Of course, all of the above deserve to be honored — Lord knows our bedroom walls nearly collapsed from the weight of all those Sting and Elvis posters — but it’s hard to believe that these bands released their first records 25 years ago. (How long ago was it that Elvis — real name: Declan McManus — first marshaled Oliver’s Army?) And here’s an even more sobering thought: U2 will be eligible in 2004, a quarter of a century after the release of their first single, “Out of Control.”
