Euro 2000: Macedonia win creates 3-way tie for top spot

Lackluster as it was, a 2-1 victory in Malta, on the same night that Predrag Mijatovic broke Irish hearts in Belgrade, pushed Macedonia into a three-way tie with Ireland and Croatia for the Group 8 leadership as the Euro 2000 soccer qualifiers went into a winter hiatus.

All three nations have six points, although Ireland, whose defense gave up its first goal in the qualifiers last Wednesday, head the table with the best goal differential (plus 5).
