DUBLIN — Last weekend’s draw for the knockout stages of the All Ireland hurling championship threw up a mouth-watering quarterfinal clash between Galway and Tipperary, who haven’t met outside of the National League since 1993.
Galway, the league holders, and Tipp, who were defeated in the Munster final, will face Leinster champions Kilkenny in the semifinal. Meanwhile, newly crowned Ulster champions Derry, who took the title for the first time since 1908, will be up against beaten Leinster finalists Offaly in the second quarterfinal. The winners of that game will go through to the semifinal to play reigning All Ireland champions Cork.
