Golf Roundup No escaping Woods at golf’s World Cup

Padraig Harrington and Paul McGinley placed third in the World Cup of Golf at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, at the weekend. The duo, which won this event in 1997 at Kiawah Island, S.C., finished behind the U.S. pair of Tiger Woods and Mark O’Meara, and Spain’s Santiago Luna and Miguel Angel Martin.

Harrington finished at 276 (71-68-70-67), while McGinley shot 278 (70-71-69-68). Their scores added up to 554, which was nine strokes more than Woods and O’Meara, and four more than Luna and Martin.

Japan Tour

Darren Clarke tied for 15th place in the Dunlop Phoenix Tournament in Japan. Clarke shot 70 in each round, save the third in which he checked in with 72. That put him at 282 for the event, 12 shots behind Thomas Bjorn and Sergio Garcia, low men at 270. Bjorn won the playoff.
