Hidden unemployed

February 16, 2011

The prospect of Aer Lingus going bust was welcomed by the Open Republic Institute, Ireland’s free-market think-tank.

“The good news is that Aer Lingus going bust will be no more than a blip for the traveling public — as other airlines will step in to meet the need,” opines the organization.

The writers continue: “Given that it, like every other state organization, is very over-staffed, one has to wonder how much hidden unemployment there is in Ireland’s public sector. Perhaps this number of hidden unemployed could be calculated and added to the headline figures.”
