The incoming Irish government will provide $300,000 in assistance this year to U.S.-based immigrant support groups.
The total of assistance money, which is distributed by the Department of Foreign Affairs, is the same as that allocated to various immigrant support centers last year.
Applications for 2002 funding are now being invited, an Irish government statement said.
Applications should be submitted by Friday, June 21, to the applicable Irish consulate in Boston, Chicago, New York or San Francisco, or the Irish Embassy in Washington, D.C.
Final approval of the grants will be decided by the minister for Foreign Affairs, currently Brian Cowen.
The latest allocation of funds will bring total Irish government funding for U.S.-based immigrant advice and assistance groups since 1990 to over $3.6 million.
