With Connacht already assured of a place in the last eight, both Munster and Ulster made important strides with victories last weekend. However, defending champions Leinster, despite easily beating Welsh club Newport, 42-14, at Donnybrook, have been eliminated.
Munster traveled to Wales to take on Neath and emerged impressive winners by 35-19 with tries from Mossie Lawlor, Jim Williams, Frankie Sheahan and Ronan O’Gara.
Ulster were far too strong for Caerphilly coming through by 67-15 in a one-sided encounter and they now meet Llanelli in Belfast later in the month with the winner guaranteed a quarterfinal spot.
As for Connacht, their aim was to secure a home game in the knockout stages. However, their bubble well and truly burst after five successive wins when they were hammered 40-0 by Pontypridd in Galway.
