Irish contingent pace George Mason

Malee is a freshman from Kiltimagh, Co. Mayo, while Quinn, a sophomore, calls Kilkenny home. Sophomore goalie John O’Hara, from Foxford, Co. Mayo, had three saves. Damian O’Rourke scored his first collegiate goal in Mason’s 3-0 victory over James Madison. The freshman from Shannon notched the tally from one yard out off a corner kick by Malee. O’Rourke also assisted on the first goal of the contest. O’Hara stopped five shots on goal for GMU. The shutout was his fifth of the season. Mason, under the leadership of Dublin native Fran O’Leary, is 6-1-2 overall and 1-0-0 in the Colonial Athletic Assn.
Wingate’s Steven Walsh scored the first goal of his collegiate career in a 6-0 pounding of Catawba. Walsh is a freshman from Cork. Teammate Gary Curneen, a senior from Omagh, assisted on another tally. Wingate, coached by Belfast native Gary Hamill, is 6-5-1 overall and 3-1-0 in the South Atlantic Conference.
Dublin freshman Ronan Keegan picked up two assists in Vermont’s 3-1 victory over Maine. Keegan first stopped the ball from passing over the goal line, then served teammate Ethan Hutchins, unmarked from 10 yards out, with a lob pass that was successfully converted. Keegan also set up Tony Anderson for a score. Anderson is a sophomore from Belfast. Anderson picked up the assist on the Catamounts’ third tally of that match, and later had a goal in their 5-2 win over Siena. Under the stewardship of Belfast native Roy Patton,Vermont is 7-4-0 overall and 2-0-0 in the America East.
Winthrop’s Gareth Hayden had a goal in the Eagles’ 6-1 win over Wofford.
Hayden is a freshman from Dublin. Winthrop is 5-3-1.
Alan Dawson brought Old Dominion up to New Jersey from Virginia, but went
home empty-handed. ODU lost to top-ranked St. John’s, 4-0, then went to
overtime to lose to Rutgers, 3-2. The Monarchs are now 4-4-0. Dawson is a
Belfast man.
