The European Tour restored a semblance of normalcy after the Masters two weeks ago and the Seve Trophy last week. The Moroccan Open in Marrakesh provided opportunities for the Tour’s less illustrious names to shoot for big game, free of the stalwarts, who needed a week off.

The Irish contingent was unable to convert this chance into a win. David Higgins showed best with a 31st place tie, shooting 10-under-par 278 (68-70-69-71). Des Smyth was one shot behind at 279 (68-70-71-70), placing him 40th with eight others. Gary Murphy struggled the last two rounds and finished two under at 286 (69-71-73-73), sharing 72nd place. Jamie Spence was low man at 266.
