When musical genius and striking good looks comes up against planning commissions and property development, guess who wins? If you guessed the government representatives, you’d be right on the money.
U2 has lost the fight to keep their recording studio, located in Dublin’s Docklands, from going under the wrecking ball. Their argument was that the recording studio should be spared as part of the country’s musical heritage, but the authorities dismissed the plea. The area is to be razed and redeveloped.
The band, who recorded their current album, “All That You Can’t Leave Behind,” at the studio, plan to remain in the area. They have already made arrangements to move to another building in the area once the renovations are complete.

Among words we never thought we’d type: Anjelica Huston and Eddie Murphy will co-star in an upcoming comedy about day- centers.

The Oscar-winning Huston, whose childhood was spent largely in Ireland, and the former “Saturday Night Live” comic, whose childhood was spent largely in New Jersey, will play rival child care center owners in “Daddy Day Care,” which will start filming this summer. It should be fun to watch Huston’s subtle comic timing play off Murphy’s more manic style . . .
