New & Noteworthy: Things are not so rosy at ‘Rosie’

February 16, 2011

By Staff Reporter

The former talk show host, who ditched her Queen of Nice image for a raunchy, political standup act, said that the magazine no longer reflected her “vision, values and editorial direction.”
O’Donnell, who “came out” last year and has become an advocate for gay adoption, has been at odds with the magazine’s publishers, Gruhn+Jahr, ever since she announced her decision to leave her popular talk show. “Rosie” (the magazine) relied on Rosie (the performer) to attract fans to the newsstand. The content wasn’t terribly compelling — sort of “Oprah”-lite or downmarket Martha Stewart – but the whole thing package was drenched in Rosie-isms (“ya cutie patooties!”). Expect lawsuits all around, since everybody knows that breaking up is hard to do.
