Off the Field: LGAA Railway Cup

The New York GAA Railway Cup, between Ulster and Leinster, will be played on Thursday, Aug. 20, at 6 p.m. at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.

Also, the All-Star team will travel to Philadelphia on Sunday, Aug. 23, to play a challenge match against Philadelphia. Bus departs the Southbend at 12:30 pm.

7-a-side camogie tournament

The fifth annual North American Camogie Association 7-a-side tournament will be held Saturday, Aug. 22, beginning at 11 a.m. at Van Cortlandt Park. The teams competing, from Ireland and the U.S., include Eire Og, Cork; Broadford, Kildare; Bailiboro, Cavan; Young Irelands, New York; Breffni Blues, New York; Eire Og, Boston, and Emeralds, Boston. Also, an international camogie game featuring Cork/Kildare vs. New York/Boston will be held Sunday, Aug. 23, at 4:30 p.m. at Gaelic Park.

Barnabas soccer training

Leitrim women to hold skydive

Leitrim Ladies GFC will hold its second annual sponsored skydive on Aug. 23. $50 deposits are required immediately as spots are limited. Proceeds will be split with the club and a charity. A bus will depart from and arrive back to The Heritage Bar, McLean Avenue, in Yonkers, for the skydive party. Franciscan Health Care Games dinner

The annual Franciscan Health Care Games celebration dinner will take place Sept. 19 at the Sheraton, in New York. The honorees will be Boston Celtics coach Rick Pitino and his wife Joanne; renowned jockey Julie Krone; Thomas Moran, president and ceo of Mutual of America; and Will Radcliff, chairman of Slush Puppie.

NW Hospice golf tourney Aug. 22

The fifth annual charity golf tournament in aid of the Northwest Hospice for the terminally ill in Ireland will take place Aug. 22 in Pleasantview Lodge, Freehold, N.Y., in the Catskills. Tee time is 11 a.m. and the Calloway system will be used.

The entry fee of $100 per person ($400 per foursome) covers green fees, electric cart, light lunch and refreshments and full course awards presentation dinner. For those attending dinner only, the cost is just $25.

Fees must be received before Aug. 15. Checks should be made payable to Northwest Hospice. Tee sponsorship ($100) and prizes to be awarded are also sought.

Bergen Irish Classic Golf Outing

The Bergen Irish Association will hold its first golf outing on Monday, Aug. 24, at Darlington Golf Course in Mahway, N.J. The rain date is Sept. 21. Greens fees and awards dinner is $100 per person.

Cardinal Spellman Golf Outing

The 6th annual Cardinal Spellman Golf Outing will take place Sept. 14 at the Knollwood Country Club in Elmsford, N.Y. The $250 contribution includes locker room, green fees, golf carts, brunch, cocktails, dinner, tournament prizes and door prizes. Emerald Golf Outing

The Emerald Society of the Queens Private Bus Lines, Inc., will hold its first benefit golf outing on Sept. 26, with tee off at noon, at the Douglaston Golf Course.

The price per golfer will be $90, which includes golf, golf cart, beverage and hot dog at the turn. All golfers will receive prizes at the course and prizes at the awards buffet afterwards. After golfing there will be a three-hour open bar and hot buffet at the Joyce Kilmer Knights of Columbus, 35-79 160th Street, Flushing. There will be a 50-50 drawing at the awards dinner. Non-golfers are welcome to attend the open bar and buffet for $20. There will be trophies presented for low net, low gross, closest to the pin and for longest drive.

Irish Way Golf Outing

The Irish American Cultural Institute’s Second Annual Irish Way Golf Outing will be held on Monday, Oct. 5, at Rock Spring Country Club in West Orange, N.J.

The price per golfer is $200 and the day’s program includes gifts, barbecue lunch, greens fee, golf cart, cocktails, awards, dinner, and prizes.

All contributions will benefit the Irish Way: the Irish American Cultural Institute’s five week summer program for American high school students to tour and study in Ireland.

Croí golf tourney in Mahopac

The third annual golf tournament to benefit Croí, the West of Ireland Cardiology Foundation, will take place Sept. 11 in Putnam Country Club in Mahopac, N.Y. Shotgun start is at 9:30 a.m. Entry fee is $175 per person and $700 for a fourball. These prices cover green fees, cart, breakfast, lunch, dinner with 3-hour open bar, attendance at awards presentation ceremony and entry to Croí’s special auction. Hibernian golf classic

The annual Hibernian charity golf classic, sponsored by Div. 8 AOH, will take place on Sept. 21 at 1 p.m. at Sayville Golf Course, West Sayville, N.Y. There will be four man scrabbles and shotgun start. A hole in one offers two automobiles and $10,000 in cash. A fee of $110 per person includes BBQ lunch, windbreaker, green fees, cart, refreshments, dinner and three-hour open bar and prizes. All profits go to the AOH Div. 8 Cultural Fund.
