A report by the Expert Group on Future Skills Needs has concluded that the outlook for the industry is relatively positive, with an average of 50,000 new home completions per year forecast through 2010.
“This study is predicting a relatively positive outlook for the industry despite the slowdown in economic growth,” said Danny O’Hare, chairperson of the Expert Group.
The predictions formed a central part of the report on the skills requirements of the construction industry over the period 2003-2010.
“The analysis was particularly useful from policy perspectives as it provides a detailed assessment of the probably level of activity,” said Liam Kelleher, the director general of the Construction Industry Federation.
