Rovers edge Bosia for 1st win of season

February 16, 2011

By Staff Reporter

Rovers got their first win of the season away as the league leaders thanks to an excellent all round performance. Mark Hopper and Paul McGlynn dominated midfield, and it was no surprise when Niall Coogan put the boys in green ahead. Kevin Daly and Pat Brosnahan kept the defense firm, and an own goal sealed victory.

Rovers Reserves 4, Bosnia 1

Rovers Reserves stormed in front when Steve Boggiano ran clear and fired home in the fifth minute. Emmet McCormack scored his first for the Rovers on the half hour, and the game was won when Boggiano scored his second. Bosniak pulled one back late on, but Kieron Branagan was superb in goal and a late Thomas Heggarty penalty made it 4-1.

Massapequa over 30s 3, Rovers 0

Rovers went down to a more organized Massapequa side. Holding their own through most of the first half, Rovers had a couple of half chances, Liam Flanagan coming close, but just before the break the home side took the lead and immediately scored a second when a speculative shot took a horrible bounce to elude keeper Mick Carby. Rovers dominated much of the second half but poor finishing kept the score sheet blank and a third goal was conceded late on the break.
