Rovers 2, Athletico Bonventura 1

In their second cup semifinal of the week, the Rovers again triumphed, 2-1, with a gutsy display against the excellent Columbian side Athletico Bonventura.

The visitors looked more likely to score early on and it took a world-class double penalty save from Jack Stepnowski to keep the scores level at halftime. The second half saw the Rovers dominate and they deservedly took the lead when Chris Simms headed home a free-kick on 56 minutes. Rovers relaxed a little and Bonventura were allowed to get back in the game, equalizing on 65 minutes. But this spurred on the green and white hoops, and with 12 minutes left Anton Diber headed in the winning goal. It has been a remarkable season for the Rovers, top of the league with two cup finals ahead.

Rovers Reserves 2, Oceanside 1

The Reserves pulled off a great win on Sunday, with Niall Coogan scoring the winning goal. Dean Gibson was outstanding in midfield, and Paul Kehoe scored the other goal. Rovers’ John Browne and Willie Dempsey also played well.

The Over-30s went down 2-1 after Marc Hoctor scored his first goal for two years, following in a Dave Quigley thunderbolt free kick. Rovers were undermanned, however, and could not hold on.
