St. Patrick’s Day Memories: Niall O’Leary

February 17, 2011

By Staff Reporter

The first time I danced five shows on St. Patrick’s Day in Dublin: I was totally exhausted! Have you ever marched in the New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade? I’ve marched a number of times with the Irish Business Organization, and once with the Kerrymens’ Association. This year, the Niall O’Leary School of Irish Dance are in the parade for the first time! Five essential Irish albums that should be part of everyone’s music library: The Storm by Moving Hearts; If It Wasn’t For The Irish and The Jews by Mick Moloney; Century by The Kilfenora Ceili Band; The Sligo Indians by Tony DeMarco. Can You Irish Dance To This? by Niall O’Leary. How much green do you wear on March 17th? Maybe some green shamrocks on my tie. I try not to overdo it. Do you eat corned beef & cabbage on St. Patrick’s Day? How about soda bread? Neither, but I am partial to Shepherd’s Pie! Favorite Irish film? “The Commitments.” Favorite Irish book? “The Architecture of Ireland” by Maurice Craig. Favorite Irish song? “An Poc ar Buile.” Complete this sentence: The most Irish thing about me is . . . The thoughts swimming around in my head, and, ok, also the way I turn out my feet!
