John Hawkes

The late John Hawkes was the author of 16 novels, all available from Penguin. He was also the recipient of Le Prix Médicis Étranger, one of France’s most distinguished literary prizes. The narrator of this wild, highly inventive tale is an Irish orphan named Dervla O’Shannon who is living in a home for girls and is forced to pay entertainment calls to some of Ireland’s national heroes, sequestered at a home for old soldiers.
