Young Ireland’s 5-10, Eire Og 0-5

Camogie was in full swing in Boston last weekend when the New York Young Irelands took on Eire +g. The score at the final whistle was 5-10 for Young Ireland to 0-5 for Eire Og.

Though Eire +g scored the first point, it was a game dominated after the first 10 minutes by the Young Irelands. Indeed, when Ger McCluskey put the ball over the bar there was no turning back. Eire +g fought hard and tough but were under pressure all the way. Eire +g returned with a point from midfield and Young Irelands Aisling Ward and Ger McCluskey doubled with two points and put the icing on the cake. Aisling Ward scored a goal for good measure.

Eire Og tried to put pressure on the backs. The Young Irelands goalie Sarah Murphy from Cork held strong in goal, kept her back line under control. Fiona Egan played a stormer at back, letting nothing in, with help from Helena Faulkner and Mary McEvoy. The score at halftime was Young Irelands 1-3, Eire +g 0-3.

In the second half, the Young Irelands only got stronger and Rosie Downey scored an impressive goal only into the third minute, followed by two points from Aisling Ward.

Young Irelands scorers: Aisling Ward 1-5, Rosie Downey 1-0, Ger McCluskey 0-4, Mags Ryan 0-1.
