Christopher J. Lavery
Christopher J. Lavery
Attorney, Law Offices of CJ Lavery, PC
Age: 39
Place of Birth: Belfast
Where you live: Massachusetts
First Job: Bartender, Lavery’s Bar, Belfast
What it taught me: That it takes ‘all sorts!’ I spent more than a decade working with and talking to a real cross-section of Belfast and I learned to never under-estimate anyone: I got to know punks who read and quoted philosophy and lawyers who couldn’t string a sentence together after two drinks – an experience that has served me well dealing with people ever since.
Status: Married
Family: Spouse, Karen Lavery; daughthers Trea Lavery and Aislinn Lavery
People would be surprised to know:
I think I’m a fairly open book
Best advice you could give someone starting out: Trust in your community. The Irish in Boston have sustained my practice since its inception – that I have shared many of my experiences with those I represent has always assured that my business succeeds.
Christopher J. Lavery is a graduate of Portobello College, Dublin (LLB) and Boston College Law School (JD).
A native of Belfast, Lavery regularly provides free legal advice to immigrants throughout Massachusetts. Lavery has spoken on immigration issues before the Coalition of Irish Immigration Centers and the American Immigration Lawyers’ Association and published articles on immigration.
He is past chair of the Irish Pastoral Centre, Quincy, Massachusetts and has received the Charitable Irish Society’s Silver Key Award, the Irish Immigration Center’s Appreciation Award and the PAIR Project’s Detention Attorney Award. He practices in Canton, Massachusetts for the Law Offices of CJ Lavery, PC.
