Why I chose this career: I followed My Sister and Brother into the NYPD. All being first generation Police Officers we made it a family tradition.

The proudest moment of my career: During the recovery of 9/11 when the public would come up to us and thanked us for being there. That doesn’t happen very often.

I celebrate my Irish heritage by: Marching in the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade in New York and being a Member of the NYPD Emerald society

Biography

Lieutenant John P. Brennan was born in Brooklyn NY and at age 5 his family moved to Lisacul County Roscommon. Lieutenant Brennan attended Lisacul National School and completed 3 years in the Technical School in Ballaghadereen. In 1987 Lieutenant Brennan Moved back to Brooklyn NY and attended High School at McKee Vocational in Staten Island. In February of 1994 he Joined the United States Air Force and received an Honorably Discharged from Active Duty in 1998.

Lieutenant Brennan has served in the Air Force Reserves now for 14 Years achieving the Rank of Senior Master Sergeant (E8) and is currently assigned to the 514th Civil Engineer Squadron at McGuire Air Force Base NJ. After being honorably discharged from Active Duty Lieutenant Brennan Joined the NYPD in August of 1998. Upon Graduating from the Police Academy Brennan was assigned to the 60th Precinct in Coney Island as a Patrol Officer. In 2004 he was promoted to Sergeant and assigned to the 10th Precinct in Chelsea Manhattan as Patrol supervisor. A year later he was assigned to Brooklyn South Auto Larceny Unit where he remained until 2011 when he was promoted to his current rank of Lieutenant. As a lieutenant, he is assigned to Bushwick’s 83rd Precinct where he is currently training newly assigned officers. In Lieutenant Brennan’s 14 years with the NYPD he has been decorated many Times, Awards include the Exceptional Merit Award (one of NYPD’s highest awards) two Commendations and numerous Meritorious Police Duty and Exceptional Police Duty. Lieutenant Brennan is a Member of the NYPD Emerald Society and marches in the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade. He returns to Ireland as frequently as possible.
