The proudest moment of my career: Witnessing son and daughter being sworn in as police officers, and as President, leading the Police Emerald Society of Westchester County NY contingent up Fifth Avenue in the New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

I celebrate my Irish heritage by: Actively participating in the affairs and functions of the Police Emerald Society of Westchester County NY, the National Conference of Law Enforcement Emerald Societies, and attending various Irish cultural and musical events.

Biography

John was born in Bronxville, New York to Ann Chester Vize and John Paul Vize (Kilrush, County Clare), where he attended and graduated from Mount Vernon High School, before eventually receiving a degree in criminal justice from Mercy College. He has been an active member of the police service since 1977, having served with the City of Mount Vernon, Town of Greenburgh and Town of New Castle Police Departments where he is presently a Lieutenant. John has been a member of the Police Emerald Society of Westchester for the past 35 years, having served as a board member for eight before being elected President in 2002. He served as President for four years before becoming a Trustee in

2006 and Vice President in 2009. John was also co-founder, first president and a board member of the Affiliated Police Associations of Westchester County (an association of police unions in the county), for 18 years, New Castle PBA President for 13 years, a former trustee with the New York-Westchester-Putnam Shields, and a charter member and board member of FOP Lodge 54 for 16 years. He is also a past President of and State Trustee for FOP Lodge 9. He has been married to Laurie (Fennell) Vize of Mount Vernon for 32 years and has a daughter Jennifer, a police officer with the Westchester County Department of Public Safety, and is pre-deceased by his son Daniel, who served as a police officer with the City of Mount Vernon. His brother Edmund currently serves as an Irvington police officer, and brother Alfred as a Town of Mamaroneck police officer as well as a pipe corporal with the Pipes & Drums of the Police Emerald Society of Westchester. Through word and deed, John and his family have always been, and continue to be stalwart champions for the pride, pageantry and honor of the Irish police tradition.
